Epilogue

Her mother fussed with Ella’s veil. “You look so beautiful.”

Ella smiled. She felt beautiful, but it only mattered that one person found her so. “Is it time?”

“Almost. I’ll be seated shortly. Are you happy, Ella?”

“Absolutely. And glad we waited to marry until Hannah Lynne was born.” Their precious baby was cuddled in Rhys’s mom’s arms and hopefully wouldn’t wake during the ceremony and want to be fed.

“Well, she’d have been here either way.” Her mom laughed.

As she’d predicted, all her family accepted him because he was what she wanted despite the unconventional way they’d met and reconciled. “True, that. But it gave us time to follow our path and then focus on her.”

“It’s amazing how a big city boy fit in here. Well, Des Moines.”

Rhys opened up a branch of his company in collaboration with her dad and brother, designing, building, and selling homes to people who needed affordable housing. Ella kept The Blooming Box but wasn’t as involved as she would have been, which was fine. Vegas was her home part of the time.

“He’s pretty amazing.”

An usher poked his head in the open doorway. “Ma’am. I’m here to escort you.”

With a kiss on her cheek, her mom followed the young man, and Ella sought out her father. He looked nervous, fussing with his cuffs.

“First time I’ve done this. Given one of my girls away. You look calm as a cucumber.”

“Because I am. All those nursing hormones. Marrying the man I love, whom I never thought I’d meet. What’s to fret about?”

“Leave it to you to do it in such an interesting way,” he teased. “Well, come on. Nessa’s gone down, and there’s only Jenn left.”

Taking his arm, she shook out her skirt with a sway of gauzy fabric and tightened her hold on the tasteful bouquet of red tulips. A canary diamond twinkled on her right hand, moved there for now until the exchange of wedding bands. Rhys had remembered her love of yellow.

Following Jenn’s svelte figure down the aisle, Ella forced herself not to hurry. Rhys would be there, waiting. Still, her fingers tightened on her father’s arm at the sight of his splendid physique dressed in a tux.

His friend, James, was at his side, someone she knew had scrutinized her at first. Which was fine—he only had Rhys’s best interest at heart. Now, they were friends. He’d brought Cheryl as his plus-one, a fact that raised her fiancé’s eyebrows.

Rhys’s stare was trained on her, the emotion in it so obvious she longed to throw herself into his arms before they were pronounced husband and wife. She contented herself with a loving smile, which he instantly returned.

When her father passed her hand to Rhys in the age-old symbolic gesture, his warm grip also wrapped around her heart. She was his just as he was hers.

Thank goodness what happened in Vegas hadn’t stayed there!
